Hello! My name is Amy Drees and I'm an assistant professor at Defiance College. I am asking you to participate in a study about contemporary memorial practices - an academic term for ways we remember people who have died. I am specifically interested in everyday memorials like tattoos and window clings for cars.
You must be at least 18 years of age to participate in this study. It shouldn't take more than five to ten minutes of your time. You will be asked some questions about your tattoos and other memorials. At the end, you'll be asked a few questions about your age, gender, and where you live.
If you would like to add a picture of your memorial practice, the survey has a place for you to do that. You can complete the survey without pictures, too. If you have identifying information such as names in your pictures, I will black those portions out when sharing them with others. Edited pictures will be used for academic presentations and for examples in articles.
No identifying information will be collected about you. Your identity will remain private.
Keep in mind that anything on the internet can be monitored (thanks NSA) but your risk of having someone look at your information in this survey is equal to less than that of someone monitoring your Facebook page or work email.
If at any time you change your mind about completing this survey, close the window on your browser. No information will be sent until you click on the "Send This Survey" button at the end.
I will use the results of this study to present a paper to other death studies researchers so we can better understand contemporary memorial practice. If you would like a copy of the paper, you can request one from me at adrees(at)defiance(dot)edu or by mail at Amy Drees, 701 North Clinton Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512.
Thank you for taking the time to help me with my research. If you think you have friends who would be interested in this survey, please send them this link:
