About Life Groups
Life Groups are close to the heart of First Christian Church—to see people loved unconditionally and growing as followers of Jesus. Most Life Groups consist of 8-12 people (often in similar life stages or circumstances) that meet several times each month for prayer, Bible reading, discussion, and encouragement. We'd love to get in touch about what groups currently have openings and might fit your life dynamic.
Baptism is a practice Christians have done for thousands of years. Maybe you were sprinkled as a very young kid or were baptized in a different denomination or even religion. Maybe you’ve never been baptized. Here’s what we believe about baptism: It’s a core part of the Christian journey that’s meant for everyone who has decided to follow Jesus (Matthew 28:19-20).
The biblical practice of baptism involves being submerged by another person for a brief moment completely under water, then lifted back up. The action is symbolic of Jesus dying, being buried, and being raised to life again and also of being washed clean (1 Peter 3:21). It's a truly powerful and personal experience and also the point at which we believe the Spirit of God comes to live within your heart and to empower you to live a life following Jesus (Acts 2:38).
We are glad to baptize anyone who has committed to following Jesus, turning away from past sin and toward Jesus' teaching in the Bible. We baptize any time and any day of the week, including Sunday mornings during the service. We have a specialized pool designed for baptisms in our building—but it can take place anywhere there is water deep enough to submerge in, whether that's a pool, a lake, or even a large tub. We'd love to talk to you about this next step!
When we talk about membership, we don’t mean a club with discounts or perks—we’re talking about a home and a family where you belong and contribute (1 Corinthians 12:12-27). Membership is the next step for people who want to commit to an active role in the church, including serving, groups, and giving. We believe that being engaged in your church is an important step in following Jesus.
There should be no such thing as an “inactive” member of the Church (Ephesians 4:12). You have a gift from God (probably a lot of them), and He wants you to use that to make the church and the world a better place (1 Corinthians 12:7).
We give because God gives first, gives the most, and gives the best (1 John 4:19). We give because we choose to serve Jesus and not our bank accounts (Matthew 6:24). We give because He promises we’ll have everything we need when we trust Him (Proverbs 3:9-10 and Malachi 3:10-12). We give because we think Christians should set the bar for generosity (2 Corinthians 9:6). Finally, we give because we believe the church has the best hope for changing the world (Ephesians 3:10).
