• Foster Application / Agreement

  • We believe that fostering is the most important role at MSRH, because it directly determines how many dogs we can save. Since MSRH has no facility to house our dogs, all dogs live in private foster homes prior to adoption. Quite simply, the more foster parents we have the more times we can say 'yes' to a dog in need. By fostering you are giving dogs that might not otherwise get a second chance at life the experience of knowling love and compassion prior to finding their forever home and family.

Your home, time and  love will forever change a rescue's life.

    • Foster Agreement and Submit
    • Purpose of Fostering / General Responsibilities

      • The purpose of fostering is to allow a rescued dog to live in a home environment while awaiting adoption, thus permitting the Foster Family to evaluate the animal prior to permanent placement and to work with the dog while in their care. A home environment is a lot less stressful than a boarding facility and a lot less expensive for MSRH. The additional exposure the dog gets from being treated as one of the family often speeds the healing process and helps ensure that an appropriate adoption family is selected.
      • MSRH places high value on our Foster Families and we consider them to be an essential element in the welfare and placement of our rescues. We want the experience to be enjoyable and free of misunderstanding for all concerned.
      • The person agreeing to foster for MSRH will abide by the rules as set forth below and will make no decisions or actions regarding the animal’s veterinary care (including euthanasia) or placement without prior approval. In addition, Foster agrees to provide humane care and maintenance in accordance with all current state, county and municipal laws and ordinances while the rescue resides with the Foster Family
    • Fostering Terms and Conditions

      • I will provide the rescue(s) with a fully fenced yard or other humane means of exercise.
      • The rescue(s) will not be constantly kenneled or left outdoors unattended.
      • The rescue(s) will be treated as a household pet and member of the family and never be used for breeding or as an attack dog or exclusively as a guard dog.
      • I will provide the rescue(s) with adequate food, water, shelter, affection, socialization, exercise, and medical care as I would my own dogs.
      • In the event of necessity, I will suggest any basic training or treatment necessary to the wellbeing of the rescue(s) to help increase its chance of being adopted.
      • The rescue(s) will permanently reside at my residence until adopted (with reasonable exceptions, example-vacation).
      • If for some reason I cannot continue to foster rescue(s), I will immediately notify the Foster Coordinator or call (361-765-1700). Rescue(s) shall not be sold, abandoned, relinquished to a pound, shelter, or other rescue group other than MSRH, transferred, or given to any individual, or to any retail or wholesale establishment for the purpose of sale or resale to the public, nor to any research institution where medical experimentation or other practices take place.
      • I understand that MSRH and its representatives have very limited information regarding the temperament and habits of each and every rescue that comes in. To ensure proper placement, I will forward a current photo, initial update, and vet visit record (when necessary) to the Foster Coordinator.
      • I agree to take all reasonable precautions through the use of crates, leashes, pet/baby gates, supervision, and common sense to ensure that rescue(s) do not run loose, become a nuisance, destroy property, injure or be injured by another animal or person.
      • I understand that the rescue(s) remain the property of MSRH and can be removed from my foster care at any time and without prior notice.
      • I understand that, for MSRH to build and continue to maintain a good relationship with potential adopters, I will need to be courteous, helpful, honest and to fully cooperate with accommodating the adoption process.
      • I will provide a fair assessment of the rescue(s) interaction with the potential adopters and their impression of the likely success of such a placement. In addition, I also understand that I have the authority to decline an adoption for any reason deemed necessary. In the event of a decline, I will contact the Adoption Coordinator and the Foster Coordinator immediately to explain.
      • In the event of a medical emergency, I understand that I do not have the authority to contact an emergency veterinary clinic directly. I will immediately contact a Vetting Specialist or the Foster Coordinator prior to making any veterinary care decisions.
      • I understand that appearance is very important and agree to groom, bathe, and keep the rescue(s) presentable at all times. If needed, I can contact Lisa Devaney to set up a grooming appointment.
      • I agree to immediately submit copies of all medical records to Lisa Devaney (e.g., shots, suture removal, heartworm treatment, etc.).
      • To aid in the adoption process, I will submit in a timely manner a photo and short biography of the foster dog to the Webmaster for inclusion on the MSRH website.
      • In the event that I wish to permanently adopt the rescue(s), I agree to complete and submit an adoption application and adoption release form. I agree to pay the full adoption fee within ten (10) days of the decision to adopt, unless approved otherwise by the Foster Coordinator.
