Tyler/Temple Photography: Freelance Job Opportunity
Do you have a job opportunity that might be suitable for a Tyler/Temple Photography student? If so, please fill out the form below and your posting will be made available to Tyler Photography majors on a private internal website. If you request it, the posting will also be made available to students across campus who are members of the "Aperture Agency" - a student run organization that coordinates job requests with qualified students.
Interested students will contact you directly and should have a résumé and portfolio to share. We do encourage students to negotiate all details of paid positions prior to accepting a job to minimize potential misunderstandings.
For jobs that are time-sensitive, complex, or critical, you should hire a professional.
Compensation
It is important to note that it is rare for students to accept unpaid jobs and in fact we discourage them from doing so as it is unfair to students (who have worthwhile skills and very real expenses) and professionals (who need to earn an income without being undercut by free student labor). The incentive of "professional portfolio experience" is not as compelling as one might think.
For both student and client guidance, we've developed pricing guidelines for appropriate student rates. The following outline was generated by the Tyler Photography Alumni and Student Advisory Board and is based on common jobs and typical rates. http://byronwolfe.typepad.com/00TylerPhotoFiles/TylerStudentPhotographyFees.pdf
Also, please keep in mind that our pool of students is fairly small and most will become quite busy from mid-semester on, so it is possible for an attractive position to go unfilled. In general, the better paid the opportunity and the earlier you advertise, the more likely you are to fill a position.
Contact and communication
You will receive a web page confirmation once your form is complete and we'll follow up with an e-mail if there are any questions.
If you have additional questions, please contact Professor Byron Wolfe, Tyler Photography Program Head:
