• USC Postdoctoral Association 2013 Travel Awards

  • 2013 APPLICATION FORM:

    These awards are meant to offset the travels costs (up to $1000) associated with attending a conference to present research, obtaining off-site training, or conducting field/off-site research that has taken or will take place between August 1, 2012 and October 31, 2013.

    All University of Southern California, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and House Research Institute Postdocs are eligible to receive funding.

    Complete this online application no later than  Monday, May 13th, 2013 at 5:00 PM, PST.  Don't worry!  The application is short and easy to complete!

    You may apply for this travel award even if you already applied for the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs Travel Award, but you may only receive one award/trip.

  • These awards are intended to reduce the travel costs associated with attending a conference to present one's research, obtaining training in new skills or techniques, or conducting research at a site remote from USC (this includes, but is not limited to: field research, accessing distant research equipment or materials, work done in another professor's lab).

    NOTE: Visits made for training or research that are not part of a defined conference or workshop program require a brief statement of support from your adviser (see "Instructions to Submit Additional Materials").

  • Please fill out the following travel costs in US DOLLARS. If travel has already taken place, please list actual costs (rounded to the nearest dollar). Failure to complete the budget section will disqualify your application.

  • INSTRUCTIONS TO SUBMIT ADDITIONAL MATERIALS

  • Do you have confirmation from a conference organizer for your talk/poster presentation? If yes, save your confirmation as a pdf and upload it WITH YOUR LAST NAME IN THE FILE NAME using the upload button at the bottom of the application.
  • Are you receiving training or conducting research at a site remote from USC that is not part of a defined workshop or conference? If yes, please have your adviser submit a letter of support for your training or research trip. The letter should confirm the importance of the trip to your reserach. Letters should NOT be more than one page long and can be as short as a single paragraph. Please instruct your advisor to email the letter WITH "TRAVEL AWARD AND YOUR LAST NAME" IN THE SUBJECT LINE to: uscpda@usc.edu by Monday, May 13th, 5:00 PM.
  • AGREEMENT TO TERMS

  • The ruling of the selection committee is final. Recipients will submit proof of travel within two weeks of their return trip. If the recipient is unable to attend the conference, workshop, or conduct off-site reserarch, he/she will return the funds issued by the USC Postdoctoral Association.

    Recipients will acknowledge the USC Postdoctoral Association 2013 Travel Award in their presentation or poster (if poster is not already printed).

    If selected, the recipient will judge applications the next time the USC Postdoctoral Association distributes Travel Awards, provided that he/she is still employed at USC or at one of its Affiliates.

  • NOTE

  • Travel funds must be disbursed as reimbursement for previous travel, or transferred to a research account. If the award recipient does not have a research account, the USC Office of Postdoctoral Affairs will work with administrators in the recipient's home department to transfer the funds to an accessible account within the department.
